Reap, Sow? How does that go again? David? Nick? O Right! You’ll Reap Revolution When You Sow Educational Cuts!
Like any self-respecting Tory-backing sewer newspaper The Sun, The Daily Mail and Telegraph immediately jumped on the bandwagon of demonizing the students/protestors taking part in the Millbank tower occupation. By publicizing the protestors pictures the newspapers have fueled the hysteria that supposed “anarchists” had taken a violent control of the demonstration and that the protestors main aim was to disturb “peace” and vandalize property. This not only looks, but is a such a violent manipulation of public opinion and an effort to demolish those students/protestors rights.
Manipulation because there are enough eye-witness reports that tell a different story of the supposed “riots” at Millbank 30 (like this one) and that do not demonize the students/protestors. Demolish their rights because the gutter journalists have not engaged in objective journalism, but simply published pictures with stereotypical right-wing comments demonizing the genuine “anger” that made the students/protestors act in such a manner.
That these “newspapers” are able to do this kind of stuff without any opposition just makes my blood bail. Because this is not how citizens in a democracy should be treated (as the students/protestors) nor informed about (like the public) protests against measures that will affect EVERYBODY in their own private lives.
But maybe we should all take into account Jello Biaffra’s words; Don’t Hate the Media, Be the Media
Hey y’all. As you might have read The Telegraph is organising a hunt for the protesters captured on film at the riots in Millbank 30 yesterday. They are asking people to sent names to studentriots@telegraph.co.uk if they recognize people. I got a message on FB urging to clog up their the Torygraph’s mailboxes. I thought to send “I see Nick Cleggs Conscience reflected in the protesters eyes. Lock him up!”. But any other fun/crazy/nuts/mad mail will do! Anybody up for some cyber-activism? Join in! And invite your friends to the FB event (if you got FB)
UPDATE: The Daily Mail has “identified” several protestors and demonized them. You can spam them on news@dailymail.co.uk
Update2: as always The Sun Couldn’t stay behind. They are looking for the bare-chested student. You can spam them on exclusive@the-sun.co.uk
After all, debates, like the election itself, belong to the voters. They don’t belong to the politicians.
Doesn’t the addition participation and voters sum up to Democracy?
