Grace Jones – Bow Down

Grace Jones might as well be considered on of the greatest pop stars on this planet. And I specially mention this planet as sometimes she feels like an alien experience. Just why the likes of Madonna and most recently Lady Gaga were and till are influenced by her. Whether it i in the fashion department, performance wise or musically makes Grace Jones one of the High Priestesses of Pop Culture.

Because it was she that fucked with the narrow-minded definitions of gender and sexuality, even when she was just a model in New York and Paris. It was Grace Jones that toyed with every aspect of female power and whipped away any prejudice against strong women in pop music (and that as a PoC). It was Grace Jones that redefined pop music decades ago by mingling pop with French Chanson, Reggea and Dub. In more than one way she paved the way for today’s Pop Superstars by bringing down stereotypes by jut being herself.

And listening to her latest (dating already back to 2008) album “Hurricane” just makes you realize that she is still out there and a force to be reckoned with. So bow down for Pop Royalty.

Turn me on – Scissor Sisters

For the past 2 weeks I have been obsessing – seriously obsessing – about the Scissor Sisters. I’ve been listening to their new album “Night Work” nearly non-stop. Bobbing my head and shaking my butt.
Because although I’ve been a fan since somewhere in 2004 when I saw them live and fell in love with Jake Shears, this new album is the best they made till now. Maybe it is because it is a bit of everything. A bit of pop. A bit of electro. A bit of glam. A bit of alternative. A bit of rock. And loads of queerness. That combined with the very intriguing Cover art of the Album (I really can’t stop being turned on by those buttocks) makes “Night Work” a massive experience my hormones will need time to recover from.
